![]() That's presuming the shop used correct coolant, and I would have to believe they would have.Ĭlick to expand. Thanks for your insight. If you've got pink or red, then in all probability you're just fine for at least 3 more years based on what you've said. I don't know of anyone going "backwards" and ditching OAT and HOAT formulations for the really old IAT (usually green or yellow green tint) coolants that have a 2 year change interval, but I do know of some (yours truly included) who have gone for lifetime formulations that should never exhaust their anti-corrosion ingredients for many, many hundreds of thousands of miles and way more than 5 years of use. Coolants put down the protective anti-corrosion layer on the internal metal surfaces in the first few months of the car's life, and provided you are using a coolant compatible with your car (which is not only what came from Toyota) and changing it at whatever the recommended interval is, you will be just fine. Toyota did have a pink tinted coolant, later superceded by a red tinted coolant, and both are HOAT chemistry.Ĭontrary to so much of what's "out there on the internet," coolant is neither "rocket science" nor something to be overly worried about if you're not dealing with a brand new car. See: The Ultimate Coolant Color Guide | Toyota Parts Center Toyota SLLCs (regardless of red or pink, and the newer red can be used in place of pink) have 5 year/150K (whichever comes first) recommended change interval. Trying to attach a picture of fresh pink coolant and reddish coolant that is currently in the vehicle. I'm wondering if we need to just go ahead and replace it and make sure that they use the Pink Super Long Life (or after market equivalent.) If it was actually the red coolant, with a shorter replacement plan, what IS that plan? I can't find the Toyota Red Long Life Coolant on the Toyota website and haven't yet found it somewhere else where I can read the label to get more detailed information. We subsequently discovered that what is currently in the system has a red appearance compared to fresh new pink coolant.Īfter 2 years and less than 30,000 miles would Pink coolant darken to a red color? Or is it more likely that it was previously filled with red coolant? I thought that 2007 Camry's were factory filled with Pink and I would have thought that they would have replaced it with the same. They said it should have been either Toyota Red or Pink. The shop that previously replaced the coolant could not tell me exactly what type of coolant they used because they have a new system and that detail is not included in the record on my vehicle. I declined the service and went home and called the independent shop that replaced the coolant 2 years ago (and possibly when they replaced the condenser about 6 weeks ago). ![]() Radiator and coolant replaced 2 years ago (less than 30,000 miles) Last week, I had my vehicle aligned and NTB told me (while I was there) that my coolant needed to be replaced.
